I noticed that when that when I changed that setting it created folders on mac for the sent messages and it totally did not put the emails that I sent onto the server, it just left them in the folders created on my mac. I messed around with it for a little longer and realised that it wasn’t going to work that way. So I tried to find a solution on the net, and I came up with a lot people recommending going into Library => Preferences => com.apple.mail.plist and editing it to changes where the sent folders are. I was just about to do this went I realised that there must be an easier way to do it, so I found this super simple built in solution.

1. Expand you IMAP folders and Locate the Sent/Sent Messages Folder on the server, and select that folder.

2. Then simply go into the Mailbox menu => Use This Mailbox For => Sent, and that solves that problem.

I can’t believe I was going to go into com.apple.mail.plist file and edit it.
